EXTRACTIONS
Wisdom teeth extractions are quite common because they can cause problems, like impaction, uneven growth or only partially emerging. Sometimes a little flap of skin called an operculum can cover these emerged wisdom teeth trapping food and leading to infections such as pericoronitis. Pericoronitis usually goes away on its own. Can be quite painful and cause swelling. Dentists usually recommend extracting impacted or wisdom teeth. Depending on your preference the procedure can be done with anesthesia or general anesthesia. The dentist will cut the gum to expose the tooth loosen it and then remove it. Sometimes they may have to break it into pieces for removal. Dissolvable sutures may be used if necessary. After the surgery it's important to rest and keep an eye on any bleeding (which's normal). It's best to stick with foods for a while and avoid using straws or smoking in order to ensure healing. If you experience prolonged pain, bleeding or any other concerns, during your recovery period don't hesitate to contact your dentist.
