PERIODONTAL (GUM) DISEASE

The signs of gum problems can be quite subtle. When plaque, a film that forms on teeth and hardens into tartar appears, it indicates the stages of a gum infection. Tartar harbors germs that attack the tissue surrounding the gums. This early stage is known as gingivitis, which can progress to periodontitis if left untreated. As the condition worsens it gradually destroys both the tissue, around your teeth and the bone that supports them. Initially you may only notice bleeding gums and bad breath as warning signs. It's not, until stages when tooth loss becomes more evident without causing pain.

The noticeable consequence of gum disease is ultimately losing ones teeth.
